Another few minutes tick by slowly before Dan Heng finally says, “so, what is it that you want to tell me?”
Ren immediately snaps out of his silent admiration. He clears his throat, praying that his cheeks aren’t as red as they feel.
His roommate looks at him expectantly, and he hastily lets out, “how did you know I wanted to tell you something?”
Dan Heng raises a brow. “I’ve known you for five years and lived with you for three,” he says. “Plenty of time for me to learn that you only ever bother to both cook dinner and tidy up after the cats when there’s something you want from me. Not to mention that the dishes you have cooked are ones I favour. And seeing as we don’t have any literature assignments coming up, I can only assume it has nothing to do with uni and is instead about our personal life.”
Ren winces at the bluntness of his words. “Well,” he begins, not looking Dan Heng in the eye. His roommate tilts his head curiously. “I was wondering if it was alright if my niece comes over to stay with us for a bit.”
