There was not a word exchanged between the pair of them; only the sound of his steps atop the hardwood floor, and the sound of Valjean’s breaths—each breath of his shallower than his last—in the house.

Summary
The coat was expensive. Something far more expensive than it had any right to be; an item made to be admired rather than possessed. Javert had glanced at it—once or twice, maybe—when they strolled down the streets of Paris, for no other reason than the fact that it resembled his old coat quite a lot. It reminded him of his past: of the painful memories, perhaps; of the parts of his life that he’d rather forget.

A monster of a fic that turned into a series even though it was just supposed to be porn. Born between the triumvirate of a slave AU prompt, the immensely inspirational creature that is the Dallas 2014 production, and the author's endless rage regarding the endings of both Jean Valjean and Javert.
More Hugoesque symbolism, allusions, references, and discussions regarding law, justice, mercy, religion, governance and history than you can shake a stick at. Because the author loves analysis and hates academia and writing meta, so her own thoughts all come out as fic.
