“Oh, you know it. It’s a slippery slope, Tony.” Peter begins counting on his fingers as he talks, “first, it’s stealing. Next, I’m thinking of dabbling in some casual arson, and after that?” He throws his hands in the air, shrugging. “Who knows?”
Tony shakes his head, a fond smile carving dimples into his cheeks. “What was it that you called it?” He pauses for a moment to think. “A heist?”
Peter sits up in alarm. “You heard that?” He narrows his eyes. “Just how long were you eavesdropping, exactly?”
“Long enough.”
“Damn. So you’ve figured out my plans to corrupt your daughter into a life of crime, then.”

Losing someone close to you is rough. Grief is a strange thing, it affects appetite, sleep patterns, mood. May had reassured Peter many times that he was not crazy for feeling crazy. That he simply needed to give himself time.
He also read about the process of grief in a pamphlet Happy gave him.
So, when he gets back from the funeral at the lake house and walks into his bedroom to find Mr. Stark lying on the rug, ankles crossed, twirling his thumbs, and generally looking extremely alive…
