Time was supposed to do the heavy lifting. Two years, an ocean, and a new life in Paris should have been enough for everything to settle back into place, but some things don’t fade; they just shift.
Before Belly left, she broke Jeremiah in a way no one really saw except Taylor, the one who stayed, who lingered in the quiet aftermath, piecing him back together in small, unremarkable moments. What started as late night conversations and shared silences slowly became something harder to name, something softer too. Neither of them meant for it to happen. Neither of them stopped it, either.
Now Belly is back, sophisticated, glowing, engaged to Conrad, living a life that looks exactly the way it was always supposed to. She’s happy. She knows she is, or at least she thinks she is.
But something feels off.
It’s in the way Jeremiah doesn’t look at her quite the same. In the way Taylor hesitates just a second too long. In the space between them that didn’t used to exist, and the quiet understanding that seems to have taken its place.
