“I forgot to tell you something,” Yuuji says and then digs out a little bag from his pocket. “Happy birthday.”
And Satoru stares at it. He hadn’t had a party. There was no fanfare. He was just a year older - it’s not. It’s not an important event. Still, his hands reach for the gift.
Yuuji scratches at his cheek, “I was supposed to give it to you earlier but I couldn’t find a good time - I ran back as soon as I remembered.”
“Why?”
“Hmm?”
“Why did you get me anything?”
It’s an oddity. Satoru has wealth. If he truly, well and truly, wanted something, he would get it no questions asked.
“Because it’s your birthday,” Yuuji says simply, as if that explains anything at all. “And I wanted to get you something. I wanted to make you a cake since I learned about it but,” he laughs, a little quiet. “I didn’t have time - so I’ll make it up to you.”
Itadori Yuuji had never thought of being a teacher before. Turns out he’s pretty good at the whole wrangling chaotic teenagers thing.

Summary
For a while, they eat and watch in silence. And when they finish eating, Megumi drags the blanket over the both of them because Yuuji gets cold but never says anything about it. The couple on the screen are having their first kiss in the rain and Megumi glances at Yuuji out of the corner of his eye.
His head is slumped against Megumi’s shoulder, his breathing even and his gaze unmoving. Megumi thinks of kissing him on his doorstep after a date. Squashes the thought as quickly as it comes.
“Hey, Megumi?” he grunts in answer, rubbing his cheek against the spike of Yuuji’s hair. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For always looking after me.” Yuuji laughs and Megumi can’t look at him when Yuuji looks up at him through his lashes.
The Bluelight of the TV makes his eyes shine. Megumi hopes the rabbit thud of his heart isn’t loud enough to hear.
