Maelle took a sip from her thermos.
She was so tired.
She had been working deliveries since sunrise, and today had been especially long. Usually, her day consisted of smaller runs, running across rooftops, and occasionally carrying messages for people in Lumière. When the baker had complained about how long the delivery was taking and offered his loud opinions on laziness, she had come dangerously close to starting a fight. She imagined challenging him on the spot, but with the younger courier helping her already close to tears, she forced herself to smile, promised it wouldn't happen again, and walked away.
As a small act of revenge, his final delivery was pushed to the very end of the day. He could waitDuring a short break between deliveries, Maelle spots Gustave heading toward Lune’s workshop and decides to tag along. Gustave and Lune discuss the converter when some missing links come up, names that don’t seem to originate from here. During the conversation, Maelle briefly remembers

Summary
In the weeks after the fire Renoir searches for his wife through the estate wanting her input on a letter. He finds Aline sitting beside Alicia’s sickbed, a room she avoided since their daughter returned from the Paris hospital. They talk about conflict with the Writers, Versos death, and Alicia future after her burns
In other words, Aline cannot get over blame, while Renoir desperately tries not traumatise their daughter more than she already is

Summary
Verso lived through the fire, as did Alicia, but he didn't wake up. He remained unconscious, and when his family realised that he and Alicia had been found in the atelier during the fire, they realised that Verso has gone into the canvas.
Aline went in after him, believing she could wake him up. She finds Verso, who doesn't remember anything. In his pain addled mind he ended up creating Lumiere, and a painted version of his family, and they were living together happily. Aline helps him remember, but all he could feel was the fire and the burning agony of his body, and so she paints over him and erases his memories again to keep him safe. Renoir then goes in to wake up his son himself, and drag his wife out the canvas, resulting in the Fracture. Expedition Zero goes out to search for their loved ones and rescue them, and inevitably find out what happened from Cleo. Now Verso has to stop his family from tearing apart his canvas, and try keep his mother from constantly erasing his memories to keep him compliant. It goes about as well as you might expect.
(Basically, Verso lived, but is trapped in the canvas by his mother, and now has to deal with the horror of having his family raging war inside his canvas)

The woman cradled Maelle's face as if it were the most precious thing in the world.
