“Scott?” Jimmy’s voice cut through the haze like a thin thread of panic. It was sharp and immediate, cracking the fragile veil of the fog. His eyes were wide, heart hammering in his chest. He leaned forward, shoulders tensed, as if bracing for a blow. “Scott! Oh god— Scott, don’t you dare!”
Tango’s hand pressed gently against Jimmy’s shoulder, stilling him. “Jimmy,” he said, low and calm, voice threaded with careful patience. “He’s awake. He’s just… seeking warmth. He flopped over me— he’s alive.”
Jimmy froze, a hand hovering in midair, breathing stuttering as he stared down at Scott. The faint rise and fall of his chest under Tango’s hand was enough for the tiniest thread of relief, and he let out a shaky breath. “He… he’s okay?”

Summary
Scott breathes, shuddering and deep, then calmly removes his hands from his face and Jimmy's pistol from his breast pocket. He sets the gun down beside him on the chest, then, unable to sit there with the gun, he moves it to the floor—but that's where it was, lying on the floor with the safety off, and Scott can picture Jimmy standing there, gun against his head, right before Scott knocked. . . .
“He was about to do it,” Scott manages, voice barely more than a whisper. fWhip sucks a breath in between his teeth. “He already had the gun out. Safety off. He was about to do it.”

Summary
Scott had broken his heart before.
Plenty of times, actually, to the point that Martyn had joked that maybe he was just addicted to the feeling. Maybe he was. But he sure as hell hadn’t been seeking this. In another life, he could've married his best friend, heard the jokes at the wedding reception from high school friends that they'd dated everyone around them, not realizing what they needed most was at their sides all along. Because when he and Martyn worked? They worked. There was this incredible sense of ease that had come from dating Martyn, something that he'd never found with any of his other boyfriends through the years. Martyn knew how he took his coffee, he knew never to dogear his books, and he knew what Scott's favorite brand of yarn was, and would surprise him with pretty stationery 'because why not'. He knew Scott. Knew him so well he could care for all his disparate parts.
He also knew exactly how to tear Scott apart. And maybe that had always been the problem.
{In which Martyn gets left on read, Scott finally finds his keys, and a couple updates are made to the favorite contact list}
