Summary
At sixteen, Canary is one of the most feared villains in the city.
Nobody knows who he is. Nobody knows where he came from. All anyone knows is that Canary is always right.
Heroes think he’s a criminal mastermind. Villains think he can predict the future. Tommy thinks both assumptions are ridiculous.
After all, he’s got chemistry homework due on Friday.
Or, Tommy accidentally becomes a feared crime boss because his survival instincts are so absurdly overpowered that everyone mistakes him for a criminal genius. Meanwhile he’s living in abandoned buildings, failing chemistry, and pretending he definitely has his life together.
Unfortunately for him, the heroes are about to figure that out. And even more unfortunately, some of them might decide that’s their problem now.
This is my first Fic! So please bear with me on this. I’ll update tags and characters either as I remember them or as they show up in the story. I’ll try to release at the very least a chapter or two a week! Please, enjoy this fic that I thought of at literally 1 in the morning!

Magic was despised. Those with it would be executed.
It was officially outlawed not long after.
Tommy is only trying to survive. Only trying to keep his magic hidden.
The only problem is, that’s near-impossible to do when you get assigned to the role of a manservant for none other than the royal family.

Tommy was glad to see that Smiley completely buffered at that statement. His hands froze in the air, his masked face whipped towards Tommy, and his jaw hung open in disbelief. “Excuse me?!”
“You are now honored to travel with the great Tommyinnit and bring me back home.”
“Wait, no. That’s not-”
“Seeing as it’s your fault I’m stuck here anyway.”
“No it’s not!”
“But I’m willing to forgive you and allow you to pay back your misdeed by bringing me back home.”
Tommy opened his eyes, pleased to see that Smiley still looked just as confused as before. Good, he liked leaving his foes confused. People should never know what to expect from Tommyinnit.

Scar was mostly sure it wasn’t on purpose that he got pushed under, but with Etho involved he wasn’t completely sure. He wasn’t really that worried, he had done so many diving drills that being pushed under by someone else wasn’t all that worrying. So he just let himself sink for a minute, squinting up and trying to figure out what was happening in the flurry of movement above him. He was a few seconds away from just giving up and getting kicked when he felt arms wrapping under his own and he was being forcefully pulled up.
It wasn’t until he was above water again, a red flotation device shoved under his arms, that he realized what had even happened.
That lifeguard that he’d gotten so distracted by? That lifeguard that Scar had been practically drooling over before he had caused multiple collisions? That lifeguard was now in the pool next to him, holding him under his arms like he was drowning.“Oh god I’m so sorry, I’m not drowning,” Scar said quickly, the embarrassment already starting to burn his cheeks red.

The ground rushed up to meet him before he could even register what was happening, a tangle of roots and fallen leaves scraping at his skin and tearing through his hoodie. The impact knocked the air from his lungs in a harsh, strangled sound, leaving his body rolling through undergrowth and roots as if the world itself was trying to catch him. His shoulder slammed into the earth, head clipping something solid, and his ankle twisting beneath him with a sharp, sickening snap that sent white-hot pain shooting up his leg.
He lay there, stunned, staring up at a canopy of green he didn’t recognise.

Tommy startles violently, hands shooting out to the straps of his backpack sitting beside him, when suddenly there is the crashing of branches snapping and another person stumbles into his small clearing.
„… Hey.“ The guy’s eyes dart around, he looks just as awkward and uncomfortable as Tommy feels, still standing frozen in their respective spots.
„‘Sup…“ Tommy talks himself into action, grabbing his backpack more securely as he slowly stands up fully. He looks at the ducks one last time and turns to leave the way he came in here. „Bye.“
He can find another spot no biggie. It’s a big park with lots of thick greenery. On his first round through he saw a bunch of nice places that weren’t as good but no worse by a lot.
A shame though, he thinks as he settles down in his new spot – under a weeping willow with leaves to the floor – leaning back against his backpack and pulling his jacket’s hood deeper over his face, no ducks to watch here.
or: Tommy meets Techno in a random park in a random city and they decide running from your problems and yourself is more fun when you've got someone sitting in the car seat next to you.

Why he ended up choosing this scared looking teenager was another question. Maybe following his originally plan would prove to be harder than he thought. Maybe his kids would love to have another brother.
Or: Tommy is terrified, Phil gets attached - as he does. And things get better.
Dark SBI, especially in the beginning - but Phil is a softy for fatherless kids - even if they're TECHNICALLY just a means to survival.
