The thing at the end of the alley was tall with broad shoulders. Wrapped in a ratty blue coat so stiff with old blood it looked black in places. One leg lagged behind the other, knee locking and unlocking in a way that screams wrong, boot leaving a crooked path through the snow as it stumbled forward. Its head lolled slightly, jaw hanging loose like it had forgotten how to close.
A zombie.

Mars was colonized. Eden was established. Astrophage threatened life.
Earth sent a ship out to solve the issue. Eden sent a ship out to hunt it down.
Simon and five of his brothers are tasked with rising against the enemies of Eden, destroying the Hail Mary, and ensuring the human hands attempting to stay the hand of God are brought to ruin. The Rapture is coming. Father saw it. The death of the sun is only the beginning. All will end. All will be made new.
Ryland Grace doesn't even know he's running for his life. He's barely holding himself together as he tries to figure out who he is, what he's doing, and how to communicate with an alien he's made friends with. Just as things are looking up, a Martian ship arrives. It looked like it was headed right for him, but then... it turned. Rocky claims there is one living person on board. Alone, just like him. “Oh, it’s a way for humans to tell each other they’re taken. To remember,” I say, popping a bunch more gummy bears into my mouth. Rocky makes a disgusted sound and I smile as I chew. “It’s just a nice way of showing they have someone they committed to.”
Rocky freezes. I don’t notice for a good few seconds, not until I get the pressing sensation that he’s staring at me, his lack of eyes irrelevant.
I turn to face him. He’s jittering, something like shaking from excitement or anger, I’m not sure.
“Rocky?” I ask.
“Grace have ring,” he points, and oh no. “Grace have mate? Why Grace no say!?”
I hold up my hands before he can get too excited, though I can already hear a familiar sound, a repeating joyful and confused song start to escape from him.
“No, no, no!” he freezes again. Deflates, a little. I sigh and run a hand down my face. “It’s… complicated.”
