Summary
Stella is an exhausted, disillusioned environmental consultant who has been crushed by the reality of her work too many times to keep believing she can save a world that’s already burning. Another bad day threatens to push her past the brink, so she goes where she always does when the weight of her failures starts to crush her— the woods. But where she is looking for a moment away from reality, she gets more than she bargained for when she stumbles into the impossible: two monsters locked in a battle to the death.
Instead of leaving the obvious danger alone like a rational person, Stella decides to finally make the right choice and intervene. As a result, she finds herself bleeding out and face-to-mask with a towering alien warrior that is annoyingly concerned with her well-being. Bound together by an otherworldly code of honor and something neither dares name, her stoic rescuer takes her recovery into his clawed hands, whether she wants the help or not. What happens after is entirely unplanned— a bond between two broken beings trying to understand each other before fate catches up. And it always catches up.
