Summary
The thing about loving Max Verstappen quietly is that it requires a particular kind of discipline.
Daniel's had six years to learn it. He's also had three weeks to carry a ring around in his backpack, waiting for the right moment. The ring is titanium, from the halo of Max's 2023 car. There are four diamonds in it, one per championship, with room on the band for more. He'd intended it as a promise. Max receives it as a challenge.
"I want more diamonds, Daniel."
Or: Daniel gives Max a ring with four diamonds, one per championship, and room for more. Max takes this as both a love letter and a personal challenge. The paddock will never recover.

Summary
Charles opens the door in his work out shorts and giant hoodie, half of his hair smooshed to the side of his head while the other sticks straight up. He's frantically trying to smooth it with one hand as he swings the door wide with the other, but gets distracted by Max standing there, red-cheeked and trying to pretend he isn’t panting.
The cloud of rainpancakesearthsyrup floods into his apartment, making Charles blink dazedly. It’s so fucking good. He can’t help but gasp a bit, surprised.
Max takes a final deep, almost heaving breath and shoots his arm out straight in front of him, a dark blue hoodie clenched in his fist. “Here.”
Charles doesn’t reach for it. He eyes Max, the sheen of sweat along his hairline, the fit of his relatively but not egregiously skinny jeans.
“Did you—did you run here?”
Max grimaces a little, then shrugs. “Brought this for you.”
*
Charles has spent the last 28 years highly sensitive to smell, usually to the detriment of his own well-being. So what if Max’s presence—and scent—have always helped with that?
So what if this is the year Max finally notices?

Summary
“I’ve been dying to watch this for ages but haven’t found the right time.” Max turns on his TV and starts scrolling through his streaming services. “I’m glad I get to watch it with you.”
“What movie is it?” Charles asks, his interest piqued. It had better be a good one, if Max has been dying to watch it. It could be one of those action blockbusters that isn’t worth watching on the small TV in his plane. Or it could even be a romcom that Max didn’t want to watch by himself. Charles didn’t know if his heart could handle Max being a secret romcom fan too.
“Well, it’s not exactly a movie…” Max continues searching through his Netflix ‘watch later’ list. “Ah, here we go.”
Charles can’t help his jaw falling open. He valiantly fights the urge to let out a tortured groan. The ‘movie’ Max was so excited to show him turns out to be a three hour long documentary on the expansion of the Mongolian Empire.
6 times Max and Charles don't succeed at flirting, and 1 time they do.

Summary
There’s a split second of absolute terror when Max comes out of his blank zone and realises that- that- that his thumb is pressing over Charles’ pulse, god, that the backs of his knuckles are resting in the humid, post-practice warmth at the dip of Charles’ spine, that Charles’ wrist feels suffocatingly fragile despite his broadness, and it’s-
“Mmh,” Charles sighs, shoulders loosening.
