Summary
At 22, Katara knows she has fully hit rock-bottom. She has never recovered from her mother's death, her inevitable need for control, and her barely disguised eating disorder (well, she thinks she has it disguised; but she's not as good of a liar as she thought).
All her life, she has only wanted to be left alone.
That is, until, she accidentally stumbles into a strange group meeting at a tea shop, and a man her age with a scar and compassion as bright as the blazing sun shows her that maybe, just maybe, all she has ever wanted is for someone to understand her. Understand her, and the scars that she has tried to keep hidden her entire life.

Zuko knows his destiny, even when he was lost. Shifts in perspective never came quietly or slowly, the fire in his heart quickly igniting whatever kindling came his way in the form of kind eyes. Summary
The war is over.
The world is rebuilding, nations are learning how to live beside one another again, and everyone seems to know exactly what Katara's future should look like. The Avatar expects it. Her friends assume it. Even Katara once thought she knew.
Then she finds a letter from Fire Lord Zuko in her bag as she travels back to Wolf Cove, to her family, home, and everything suddenly turns on its head. With every letter, Katara finds herself remembering the months they spent together before Sozin's Comet. The quiet conversations, the shared burdens, and the feelings that somehow took root beneath the shadow of a world at war and could only blossom now that the sun had chased the darkness away. As their letters grow longer and their connection deepens across an ocean, Katara begins to question futures she once accepted without thinking.

This was terrible. It was so embarrassing— inhumane some would say. How could she sit there like that and just exist. She doesn't even seem to know how she radiates her presence. It floods Zuko’s mind, a glimpse of hope, a glimpse of a future; together. But he sees how her eyes dart over to Aang, who’s conversing with Sokka. Because she’s his, another win for the Avatar.
OR
Zuko's yearning for another, someone who could never be his. Because really, who would pick the banished prince over The Avatar?

Summary
“Aang,” Sokka says very slowly, “are you telling me that you just conned an amnesiac—“
“It was an accident!” Aang cries.
“—that you just accidentally conned an amnesiac Prince Zuko into betraying the Fire Nation?” Sokka corrects, without missing a beat.
Aang tries one last time to defend himself. “I panicked,” he says.
“Aang.”
"I didn't think he was serious at first!"
"Aang."
Aang sighs. And hangs his head. “...Yes,” he says miserably.
Katara and Sokka are never letting Aang go off on his own after this.
(In which Zuko loses his memory after escaping from Pohuai Stronghold, Aang cons him into becoming his firebending teacher, and the Gaang continues their streak of kidnapping random children.)

Summary
Katara begged and bled to win a warrior’s status from a world that knew her place in the shadow of great men, as tolerant and accepting as bathwater, welcoming and warm, and never, ever as fearful as the wild water that could bring men trembling to their knees. Her anger and her rage and the deep bitter well of her hatred made Aang uncomfortable—but that moment and support from an unlikely ally makes her realize that not even for the Avatar does she have to swallow herself down. She was a whole sea, waiting to discover herself.
Begins during The Southern Raiders and follows her through wandering years in the Fire Nation and its colonies, posing as the Painted Lady once again as she does her part to heal the world by cutting out the rotting flesh.
Featuring Fire Lord Iroh looking on with fond amusement as Crown Prince Zuko insists on going in person to receive the surrender of another foolhardy general who refused to acknowledge the succession and took the peace as an opportunity. If you counted all the warchests that Katara had seized, and returned the excess after distributing supplies as disaster relief, the ‘husband price’ for his adopted son was quite rich indeed. He should see about granting her a title.

Summary
“Why are you looking for medicine in the middle of the night?” Katara seeks out Zuko’s face again, but it’s simply a vague outline in the dark. There’s no reply. She forges ahead, regardless, genuine worry mounting.
“Zuko, what’s-” She’s cut off by a sound halfway between a sob and a frustrated snarl. Katara wastes no more time, striding straight up to the shadowy figure and groping for his arm in the dark.
“Zuko, give me a light, now.”
“Katara, just go.”
“Now.” Throughout this unexpected encounter, Katara has been whispering, but now she injects command into her voice. The single word brokers no argument, and Zuko doesn’t give her one.

Summary
The first time Zuko met Aang was when he had snuck out of the palace at age 14.
Because somehow this led to Zuko finding a baby monk yelling his lungs out for help from the top of a tree that he was very clearly stuck in despite any possible air bending the young monk could have done.
And somehow, 2 years later this led to both boys being caught in a storm that had them frozen in ice for the next 100 years
