Summary
Ryland Grace woke up 11.9 light years away from Earth not knowing who he was. With time, the memories came back, but he still doesn’t remember it all.
Of course now, as the Hail Mary is en route for Erid, Grace is struck with memories of what can only be depicted as deep-seated emotional trauma.
And of course that happens after he’d managed to trigger a localized spacetime geometry failure in the middle of interstellar deceleration during which a literal submarine crashed into them, leaving Rocky and Grace to solve yet another doomsday scenario.
Never a dull moment in intergalactic space.

Simon's fought so fiercely to live, to carve out space for himself with bared teeth and bloodied fists, but the force and drive that kept him surviving just isn't anywhere near enough in the face of this complete hopelessness. And so he slumps to his knees to see if he'll get lucky enough to slip gently into oblivion.
And isn't that some sick fucking joke.

Simon can't help but be pissed with himself. This is what he wanted, after all, this is what he sacrificed himself to do and he just can't be fucking happy about it. Most of all he just really doesn't want this man to kill him.
"I really- I-i'm sorry. I won't fight anymore. I can take it. I just- I-i really don't wanna die."
It's utterly irrational, but some part of him he hasn't killed yet was actually ecstatic at being desired. He can't help but feel crushed at the fact even this man is recoiling away from him like he's fucking disgusting and repulsive.
Maybe because he is.

Grace turns his gaze back to the craft in front of him. Now that he takes a closer look, it is a craft, and a shoddily constructed one at that. Even from this far away, he can see patches of metal roughly welded together to create something just this side of airtight.
At least it used to be. The thing looked like it had been hit by a bulldozer, and then backed over for good measure. There were holes punched into the metal big enough to stick his arm through, the glass on the front was cracked, one tap away from shattering completely, and the whole thing was covered in dents and scratches. He couldn’t even see any way for the thing to propel itself. He leaned in a bit closer to see around the back and … is that a propeller? Like on a-
