For a second, the cool air of the fan hit the skin of his neck like a balm. A shiver ran down his back and Daniel thought it was relief, from the heat, the itchiness, the stares. It was actually the beginning of the end, and Daniel just had no fucking clue.
“What is that?” The voice, his voice, broke the stillness. Cut through it. Swiftly, elegantly, leaving no bloody mess behind. Lestat sounded mocking, sharp, like he'd wanted it to hurt.
“What?” Daniel turned back around to face him; continuing to show him his back, the fragile bend of his neck, felt too dangerous.
“On your neck. What is that on your neck, Daniel?”
__________________________Years after that disastrous interview in San Francisco, Daniel Molloy is working as a music journalist in Los Angeles and is tasked with interviewing rock 'n' roll's newest enfant terrible, Lestat de Lioncourt.
It wouldn't be an issue, if it weren't for the scar on his neck. Two rows of teethmarks, the gnarly outline matching that of Lestat's husband's mouth.
A second chance encounter for Daniel. A second chance at uncovering the dangerous, dark memories he has forgotten, or been made to forget.

In the half-year since Bilbo had left, Frodo had come to realize there might be a heavy deal more Tookishness in himself than he thought.
It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate comforts! No, he might appreciate them overmuch. He had slept until midday, by the clock ever on the mantelpiece, which he had not moved from the spot Bilbo had set it. But Frodo couldn’t shake that everything in the Shire seemed as if the whey strained through cheesecloth: thin and watery, like the pouring rain outside.
(Frodo is depressed; Sam assumes he's sick and gives him company plus some sweet, sweet lovin'.)

Summary
After an unforeseen event within his home, the Protagonist finds himself completely and utterly alone and in no way capable of defending himself against the encroaching night... and the impending arrival of the Intruder. However, he's in luck (though he wouldn't exactly call it that). The madman who has consistently shown up on the Protagonist's front door step, demanding proof of humanity, has received a gift in the form of a bullet in the shoulder, the result of a crossfire between himself and a residence of suspected Visitors. The Protagonist would much rather have anyone else in his house than that maniac (which is shocking considering his approach to people in general), but he finds himself incredibly surprised at the sudden impulse to carry on with his sad and miserable life.
