A smirk pulls across Aventurine’s face. “That’s what all the boys tell me.”
Ratio’s expression turns severe. “The room, gambler. It’s getting smaller. I estimate that it’s closing in at about six inches per minute, giving us perhaps an hour’s worth of time before the walls close in entirely,” Ratio says.
Aventurine and Ratio find themselves trapped in a shrinking room inside the Dreamscape, an inscrutable riddle about baring their souls their only clue for escape.

In the time he had known Kaveh, he had known his former partner for many things; his quick wit, his easy charm, and his inventive genius. His patience in regards to Alhaitham has been a new source of ire for any and all departments involved in their debriefings. For his part, Alhaitham had been cautioned against, “intentionally antagonizing his handler, lest there be a repeat offense in his track record”. They’d never been perfectly harmonious at all times by any means, but it’s been lamented more than once that the pair seem “unable to go a single day without issue.” This is, as most gossip within the Agency, a gross misrepresentation of the facts.
Alhaitham is a Field Operative for the Sumeran Agency of International Intelligence. Kaveh is his former partner turned Handler. The arrangement is anything but according to plan.

A long pause. The longest one yet. “Who says I haven’t?”
Lightning flashed through the window, illuminating Al-Haitham’s face. Half of it was still wrapped in shadow, blocked by Kaveh’s head, but he could see the distance between them measured, laid flat by the light. The lightning went. The room went dark. But the memory of Al-Haitham’s wide eyes did not leave him.
What did he want?
“Have you?” asked Kaveh.
“Have you?” Al-Haitham’s voice was so quiet, buried under the murmur of the rain.
Kaveh swallowed. “I mean…I thought that was obvious.”
Kaveh accidentally sleeps with Al-Haitham. And then...keeps sleeping with him.

Ahaitham stills. No. Yes? No. But, then again, what is love? Alhaitham cannot imagine his mornings without Kaveh’s grousing, or their nights without his burning the midnight oil until the lamps are nearly down and Alhaitham has to drape a blanket over his shoulders after falling asleep at his desk. So, perhaps that is a type of love, but it doesn’t quite concern Alhaitham.
“It doesn’t matter,” he finally replies, clinging to that glass of wine in his hand like it’s a lifeline. “What was it that you said? We just… are."
After Tighnari notes that he and Kaveh act like an old married couple, Alhaitham (kinda) considers (maybe) marriage.

Summary
Admittedly, Fai had never been a particularly good judge of character. A history of trauma at the hands of others, long periods of isolation from people, and a deliberate choice to never allow his relationships to develop into anything beyond surface level pleasantries had not exactly granted Fai much experience in understanding the inner workings of other people. Still, he felt certain that his take on Kurogane was correct. He felt certain that, were it to become necessary, he could kill Kurogane.
