But on Reaping Eve of the 65th Hunger Games, there's an accident. On Reaping Day, there's a dare which prompts Finnick to volunteer against Mags' instructions. Somehow that's all it takes for the system to start breaking down, especially for the most prominent Elite family in Four: the Crestas. Watching from home as a newly minted celebrity demolishes the competition isn't what they'd planned on.
Or: It's all well and good to live in a Career district and know someone will always volunteer. But someone has to be the person who's been told from birth that his highest calling is to be a human sacrifice.
