This won’t do at all.” Amaranth snapped her fingers and the blood, piss and shit he’d been forced to lay in for the last nine days was gone. Rhys straightened as far as the lashes on his back and broken ribs would allow, letting his mask slip into place.
“Amarantha darling, I was just wondering where you’d been. Thought someone may have finally stuck a knife between your-“ the rest of the sentence lost as Rhys was jerked back towards the wall with enough force to crack the stone. Thin rope wrapped around his neck holding him to the wall with just enough give for his toes to reach the ground. Blood began to drip from where it sliced into his throat.

His shadows ripple across the floor, twisting in the sunlight that sifts through the window, catching dust motes like tiny stars in their folds. Lucien hesitates, then holds out a hand. Slowly, almost reverently, the shadows flood toward him, shifting and curling around his fingers, up his arm. Azriel’s gaze traces him, noting the slight tilt of his lips, the way his eyelashes catch the sunlight, the faint flush that lingers on his cheeks.
Azriel smiles, a quiet, fond curl of lips. He lets the shadows drape over the fox, but restrains them to his arms and shoulders.
Lucien wriggles as one delves through his hair, tracing the curve of his ear and lingering there, teasing in its attention. A shiver passes over the emissary, and Azriel notices, quiet satisfaction pricking at the edge of his chest.
“Az”, Lucien hisses, a little breathily. “What…”
He likes the way Lucien says his name like that—soft, unguarded, the sharp edges worn down into something almost sweet. It settles low in his chest, warmer than it should.

No, better to keep the clever fox alive.
The Night Lord crouches beside the emissary, slow, unhurried. Lucien does not look at him. His gaze remains fixed on the floor, on the dark sheen spreading between the cracks in the stone, as if the pattern there might rearrange itself into something less final.
Rhys catches the fox’s chin between his fingers and wrests it upward. Lucien blinks, and his eyes flash, wet and incandescent, turning his face slightly, trying to wrench free—not from Rhys’s grip, but from the gaze, from the scrutiny.
Rhys shifts his grip from Lucien’s jaw to his shoulder instead, drawing the bloodied fox inward in something that might, at a distance, resemble comfort.
It is not.--------------
AU where Feyre failed, (like she would have if not for the severe help from outside sources, lets be real), Rhys killed Amarantha, but he's supppper evil, and he chose to keep the courts under his rule.
Tam and Lucien ran. Rhysand kills Tamlin, but not his fox. and then it goes full Stockholm syndrome.Series
