    Summary

Viktor's eyes wander around the stands towards the entrance gate where the other competitors and their entourages wait for their turns to enter the arena. He spies the knight that won the previous round dismounting just outside the gate and turning to shake the hand of the man he had just knocked out of the saddle. He is very tall, with broad shoulders that are accentuated by the pauldrons of his armor. His surcoat is a dark blue with a crest featuring two crossed silver keys – the coat of arms belonging to Piltover’s Royal House.

Viktor’s interest is piqued as he watches the winner turn to take the reins of his competitor’s horse from his steward before placing them back in the other man’s hand. The knight’s face is still hidden by his helm, but Viktor watches him clap the horse’s original owner on the shoulder in a friendly, reassuring manner before walking his own steed off into the crowd, followed by his steward.

“Well…” Viktor muses, leaning forward out of his seat in an effort to continue watching the knight with curiosity as he departs the arena, “Perhaps some Piltovians are somewhat decent.”

    Summary

For the better part of a decade that feels more akin to a lifetime, the vampire hunters of Zaun have held the nocturnal menace at bay through a combination of raw ingenuity and base violence. Standing as a bulwark against an unstoppable force, they’ve held their own admirably, but amidst the unspoken, gnawing silence lies a simple, unanswered truth: what chance do mere mortals stand in the long run against the machinations of creatures as untouched by the sun as they are by the ravages of time?

But something in the air as of late has changed, and the tides have turned. Something is amiss.

One day, an ominous carriage drawn by pitch black steeds ambles through the dilapidated front gates of what passes for a noble manor in Zaun. Its occupant as unknowable as the item they seek to deliver. Paltry chicken scratch scrawled on a measly scrap of old parchment paper secured with butcher’s twine and a wax seal. And with it, the potential to bring Zaun back from the very brink of decay.

For words rarely mean more than the intentions of the hand that inscribed them. And choices mean nothing if the will of the one who makes them is anything short of wholly and utterly unwavering.

    Summary

Viktor is legally subhuman, and he's been in hiding since the murder of Salo and the death of his best friend Sky.
Jayce wants to understand the truth but most of all he wants to understand Viktor.

Those who are not human must always be in clear view of a human, never out of sight.

Those who are not human must not make sudden movements.

Those who are not human must not speak to their betters in public.

Viktor repeated those words in his head like a mantra, not because they belonged but because they were there.
