Jayce hadn’t budged from the end of the hallway, just stupidly paralyzed.
The leather oxford loafers were tossed off from Viktor’s feet. As he lifted his head to address his statuesque partner, Viktor only commented on his lack of response, “Jayce, you look like you have seen a ghost.”
“Hi, welcome home! I mean-” Jayce threw himself out of balance. He blurted out his frantic correction, “Welcome to my home!”

He perches on the edge of his bed, clad in his thickest sleep clothes as a defense against the chill of winter. For the first hour, he keeps hope. Jayce would be making his excuses for the evening, maybe finishing his wine or wishing a friend who will leave early in the morning a farewell. Viktor toys with the pendant around his neck, a holiday gift from Jayce, something he hasn’t taken off in the week since it was given. It’s the only fine thing he keeps on himself, the only thing he feels properly deserving of wearing.
When Viktor allows himself to fall back against the bed, exhausted, he's all but given up. Mere hours ago he'd told Violet not to set expectations, but here he was daring to have them.in which miscommunication, the weight of expectation, and potential political strife test Jayce and Viktor's marriage

He opens up the thread and sees, to his horror, that the wall of text he'd meant to send to Caitlyn was sent to Viktor by mistake. And he'd just fallen asleep after like it was nothing. The coffee in his stomach stirs and threatens to come back up. He can feel his heart beating in his throat as he just stares at the screen, willing the message to disappear or for the phone to combust or for a meteor to strike him dead.
After an excellent first date, Jayce tells Caitlyn all the juicy details... except it goes to Viktor and not her. But maybe Viktor won't mind?

Never truly speaking about it, they both form completely different opinions on the night’s events and keep sleeping together. Jayce thinks they are dating and taking things slow. Viktor thinks they are friends with benefits and that Jayce could never want more.
And so it goes, until one gala, when everything reaches a turning point.
