Summary
Sonic the Werehog in Unleashed gets a bad wrap in the games, and I decided to do it justice; inspired by multiple one-shot fanfics, Sonic undergoes a transformation every night, both physically and mentally.
An adaptation to the game storyline but with a Feral Werehog out to save the world! Small tweaks and stuff to keep readers on their toes, so don't expect a story parallel to the games. We're going all out tonight!

Looking back, Raph can count all the red flags he missed and hates himself a little more for each one. Leo sometimes causes problems for fun, and he likes to see what trouble he can get away with or get himself out of, and he is a downright menace to society when he’s bored—but he’s good. He’s sweet, and charming, and wants to help.
Leo wouldn’t have raised an issue with the other group of mutants, potentially cutting ties with useful allies, unless he had a decent reason to.

Donnie sits back in his chair, ignoring the twinge in his lower back the way he’s ignored it for the past three hours, and says, “What does the hard way look like?”
“You’re gonna hate it.”
“Color me intrigued.”
Leo shrugs and starts to lift himself up. The infirmary bed is raised at an angle, to help Leo breathe and reduce the risk of pneumonia that has kept Don awake at night, but now he’s pushing himself upright all the way, kicking at his blanket with the foot that isn’t casted.
“Oh my god, stop, I hate it,” Donnie blurts, all but flinging his tablet aside in his rush to put an end to this nightmare. “You win, you monster!”

So. Here’s the thing. Leo hasn’t been getting a lot of good sleep lately. Or any sleep. He’s never had the best track record of it before, his insomnia keeping him company on late nights where his thoughts wouldn’t rest and his mind wouldn’t stop. But lately, it’s been… especially bad. Ever since the Invasion, Leo’s already shaky sleep patterns shriveled and died like a worm on a sidewalk after rain. Even though it’s been a month already, the scars that the Krang left behind, both physical and metaphorical, are still making Leo’s life just a little bit worse.
Or, a 5+1 times that Leo fell asleep and felt bad about it, and the one time that he felt great about it.

The process of healing is not easy, and sometimes despite one’s best efforts it feels like climbing up a mountain of sand, getting so close before the ground gives out and sends you tumbling back down.
