Malia was leaving him. Even though she promised not to, she was leaving and it was all his fault. Yet, Stiles couldn't go after her. He could only crouch on the cold ground of the Hale vault, shivering. He lets his friend pull him up, but in the dark of the vault, they don't see the blood splattered across his face. Stiles knows it's there. He can taste it on his tongue, his ears are still ringing from the gunshot.

Melissa makes him wash his hands.
It's kind of funny, really. Hilarious in a dark kind of way, because that's just how Stiles' life is now. The irony that he doesn't even notice his dad's blood on his hands, when just last week he scrubbed them raw trying to get Donovan's off. When he's been trying in vain to wash the invisible blood off for the last year.
“You've got more blood on your hands than any of us.”
Maybe he's finally gotten used to it.
