Summary
Karlach cocks her head to the side. Right braces for the verbal blow they know is coming. "Sorry," they add hastily. "Sometimes I ... I don't always pick up hints."
"You don't, do you?" Karlach says with a dawning kind of thoughtfulness. Her tail flicks behind her, contemplative. She smirks. "No worries. Always liked being straightforward better anyway. I'm trying to get you to come to bed with me, give the new hardware a test run. What d'you say?"

Summary
Revali tilts his head sharply, fixing Link with one sharp eye. “Oh, my, it talks? To what do I owe the honor?”
“Someone t—old me to ask what th, this means,” Link goes on, and does his best impression of the whistling sounds Revali makes. He hasn’t got any other Rito to ask; he might as well risk his chances here.
The instant he hears the sound coming from Link’s mouth, Revali’s attention moves back to the console again. The wind rushes by the latticework frame of Vah Medoh, filling the silence. “It wouldn’t translate,” he says after a too-long pause. There are no whistles now. “Not in a way you’d understand, anyway, O hero. You’re much too busy being that sword’s packmule.”

Summary
Link’s heart stutters in his chest, something new now awake within it. He does not have the slightest idea how to ask for what he wants, nor if Sidon will be offended if he does. This is the kind of thing he should wait on, bring up before the situation gets hot and heavy, something to be discussed with clear heads and full understanding. This is play that could cross lines. But Link has never been a planning type.
“Fine,” he starts. His fingers fumble over the signs: “I want—I want you to make me your prey.”

Summary
It was not for one man to determine the worth of a life, that much Geralt would believe. It was not for him to say whether the deaths of Downwarren had been a worthy price to pay in exchange for the lives of the children. But he could say this much, he thought, watching a tattered black bird peck at something in the water that had gathered in one of the hoofprints: freeing the druid’s spirit was a choice that should not have been left to a stranger.

Summary
When she was twelve, a magpie lit on her windowsill in the bruise-gray hours of the morning. Its wings were beetle-black and its eyes brighter, for the moment, than the rising sun. From her bed Molly watched it in perfect stillness, afraid to move lest it fly away.
The bird tilted its head one way, then another. Molly waited, holding her breath, for it to speak.

Summary
The Facility vibrated gently under her, around her, leeching through the metal her hand was wrapped around and into her bones. She shifted her weight, heavily, letting the platform shudder and echo. Standing still made it worse.
“Hello,” said the turret again, hopefully.
