This hadn’t been in the parenting books. Hermione would know—she’d read them all. At least, all of the good ones (good meaning “including peer-reviewed research” and “not just a television show host”). She’d found that even the scientific literature had grown increasingly…unhelpful as her children got older. And not once had she been warned about this.
(Or, no one tells you, when you become a parent, that seeing your child get all the things you needed at that age and being happy is also triggering)

It had to be him, because nobody else could make these guys so afraid that they’d walk themselves into her police station and confess just to save their own necks.
Caroline just… didn’t know what to do with that.
(AKA, Caroline is the sheriff in Mystic Falls. Klaus is possibly a serial killer, definitely some kind of mob boss, and kind of horribly, inconveniently hot.)
