Michael sighs. The sound slips out soft, almost dreamy, despite himself.
“I know, Father.”

“Um,” Jeremy began, “What’s your name?” He asked, but the man didn’t waiver. In fact, his face seemed to scrunch up at Jeremy’s words. He didn’t respond.
Jeremy’s eyes darted to the man's name tag. On it, the name Mike was written in bold black letters.
Jeremy offered a crooked smile, “Mike? Mike what?”
Finally, Mike reacted, letting out an exaggerated sigh, “It doesn’t matter.”
“Oh.” Jeremy said, staying silent for a few more seconds, before speaking “Well, my name is Jeremy. Jeremy Fitzgerald!”

Jeremy does not need to know. Just like he does not need to know about the details of the plan, he does not need to know that his partner is not coming home tonight. Or next night. Or the night after that.
Mike sighs barely audibly — if corpses could die from heartbreak, he probably would — and gently, silently, as soft as he can, he pushes the door open.
He leaves quietly, just like he has been living for the past few decades, before the sun rises; he sends Jeremy a message saying that Henry has called him because some paperwork nonsense had to be dealt with. He powers off the phone and throws it in the most remote inner pocket of his bag. He starts the car and does not even dare put the radio on.
