Summary
The crowd's roaring applause hits her ears long before she even perceives the glow ahead of her, the glimpse of gold she catches through the thick trees that scratch up her scarred-over palms every time she doubles over, gasping for air. The sound, the sound isn't strange, but it leaves her reeling. It makes no sense. Why here? Why now? Is this what happened when you died? Greeted on the other side by cheers and applause that pierce the ringing of your ears?
Despite the fact that she's definitely dying, it's a nice change of pace. It's not even that hard to imagine, she figures if people didn't know Marie was a monster, that supes were monsters, they'd eat up the flashy powers, faun over the idea of having super-abled protectors. The applause that got louder the closer she clawed her way towards the light would be real.
It's too bad things aren't like that.

In which supes are outlawed in the late 50's after mass international casualties forced the U.S. government's hand, and Vought keeps making them anyways. Unfortunately, turning a small portion of the newest generation into supes doesn't make them any less illegal, so they rebel in the only way they know how.
Make a fucking show of it.
