The look in Wednesday Addams’ eyes begged Enid to stay. To stop, to think, and to face the battle. Together.
Then Enid disappeared.
Wednesday had never felt fear like she did in that moment. Enid had accepted her sacrifice, willing to trade the rest of her days to ensure that Wednesday lived for hers. But that devotion was far from one sided. If Wednesday could’ve crawled into the hole beneath the roots of the Skull Tree, pulled the dirt back over her eyes, and let the world burn, but in doing so reverse the minutes in which Enid had cast aside her own life, in that moment she would have.
In realising this, Wednesday knew that every day that Enid had given her would be spent returning the favour to her best friend.
It wasn’t love by name. Wednesday didn’t have the time to stop and label whatever it was that she felt for her best friend. But naming it or not didn’t matter. Call it what you will—duty, stubbornness, repayment, romance, instinct. Enid was the North Star that Wednesday Addams now followed. Her heart beat to keep Enid’s light shining. And it would keep beating that way, for the rest of her days.
