Summary
Millennia of existence, with thousands of years tied and chained to a place, can leave the waters of life stagnated. Without Lilith and Charlie, the years have dragged by for Lucifer Morningstar in the safety of his rooms in the palace, feeling forgotten, out of place and decidedly unneeded by those he holds dearest.
Yet after a particularly unpleasant nightmare of the Fall, he's left with a lingering sense that something is about to change.
Keen to extrapolate if that change will be for better or worse, his eyes cast about the Rings and find some sinners able to gaze right back at him, a revelation with how rare such a thing is in all the history of Hell. Fascinated, he nevertheless determines that he must be mistaken when Charlie, finally, calls back. Surely this was the change he was waiting for, the change that would break the eternal recurrence of the depressed monotony that he found himself in. Surely those sinners, such as they are, cannot be the ones that will bring change. Surely that sinner who could speak his name when set upon by his gaze, was nothing.
Chapter 4: Alastor nodded, sounding much too accommodating, “Why, of course, my dear! I’d be delighted to spend time with the little King.”

Adam's blow kills Alastor, who wakes back in the hell of 1933. With his powers still bound by his deal, Alastor sets out to regain them - only to end up becoming the new nanny for Princess Charlotte.

Lucifer struggles with someone actually summoning him and being pleasantly surprised by the encounter. Multiple times. When Alastor finally meets his fate, he has a very specific mission.
