He sucks on the small wound, putting the needle and the thread aside, next to the torn dress on the floor where he sits cross-legged, alone in the middle of the room.
Who knew sewing was that difficult?
He’s seen his Maman do it a couple of times, all swift movements, sometimes not even looking at her hands like she was bestowed this knowledge the moment she became a mother or was performing a magic trick.
And Maman… Maman made sewing look so easy, too. He should have asked her to stitch his breeches together and show him how it’s done.Now it’s just him, his sister’s damaged dress, and an unlimited youthful determination to see it through.
