“To lie on a tanning bed? I don’t think he has any need to.” The man scoffed back, leg bouncing where it remained laying over the other, fingers still drumming the armrest.
“I’ll have you know I’m going for a swim.”
“To pretend to drown so I come save you?”
“I— well— that’s—“
“Entirely correct, I know.” The lifeguard then hummed, moving his leg somehow gracefully back to rest on the bar by his feet, leaning forward as he braced his elbows on his knees, hands clasped together. “It’s never worked on me, you know.”
“You’re supposed to save drowning people, that’s literally your job.”
“Usually the people drowning don’t vie for my attention beforehand.”

It was a light he hardly touched these days, yet he found himself pausing nonetheless, throwing Sora’s mouse toy before turning to look outside, at the lamp light flicked on just across the way glowing a soft gold. It felt like hope, or rather a hope he used to hold.

Sometimes, when Grian was up and about, Mumbo found himself watching him from afar, easy to find from his laugh if nothing else. He was liked by everyone in the office, able to make conversation with all staff and dodge questions he evidently didn’t want to answer by wordlessly slipping off onto the next person, and Mumbo couldn’t help but find it fascinating. He knew, logically, he also tended to get along with everyone, and would eventually know everyone in the office beyond just their names, but it didn’t change his admiration.
Of course, Mumbo was among the people in the office, and therefore a victim of Grian’s distraction more often than not, especially with their desks being so close together.

Pearl tilted her head. Gem pointed at the window and called out.

“What’s what?” Pearl turned quickly, scanning the windows.
Gem turned to Skizz and drew a single finger across her throat. Skizz shrugged before grinning and giving a whistle.
She turned back to Pearl. “Oh, it must have been my imagination. Oops.”

“No, it’s not—why would I—”
“To distract me,” Kaoru says curtly, before turning his head away. “Well, it’s not going to work.” He moves to crouch on his board and gain speed, but he halts in the motion half-way through, his attention caught by the sign pasted onto a nearby rock wall. When Kojiro sees it himself, he nearly falls off of his board entirely.
You’re my sweetheart, the sign reads, the letters framed with cherry blossom branches. It’s not very subtle—it’s obviously a message meant for Kaoru. Kojiro has no idea why Adam would do such a thing during a beef between Kojiro and Kaoru, but the uneasy feeling that’s been stirring in his gut since he’d arrived at S tonight is starting to grow.
Kaoru finishes scrutinizing the sign to whip around to squint at Kojiro. Kojiro’s hands shoot up in the air.
“I—I didn’t put that there—”
