The doors herald someone's entrance with a pneumatic hiss—a junior recruit holding a grotesquely large and obscenely ribboned box of chocolates in his hands. He needs both hands to hold it. Throwing half assed greetings over his shoulder made tolerable by his genuine smile. A smile that trembles everytime it involuntarily falters or flares against his will—like he's physically restraining himself from outright grinning like a lovesick fool.

When he shifted, his weight settling in deeper—he realised two things. He wasn't on the floor. He was in his bed. Right underneath his bedsheets, cocooned in silk. And his body wasn't completely free of strain, not if the weight fully draped at his left side was real. He shifted again—a human weight. Drew in a breathe through lungs that no longer burned with desperation—spiced cinnamon. When stripped of his Kevlar and cleaned of the soot of his city and the scent of war paint, Bruce smelled like spiced cinnamon.
Clark opened his eyes with caution, some parts to avoid the unpleasant sting of light ruthlessly burning through his eyes. Others to ease the sting of disappointment if it so happened Clark was hallucinating again.
Bruce's cheek was pressed to Clark's shoulder, his head tucked beneath Clark's chin—and it made looking all the more difficult. A generous amount of war paint was still smudged on the skin around Bruce's eyes, some of it smeared on Clark's skin.
Or, Clark's debilitating survivors guilt VS his boyfriend whom he's borderline down horrendous for.

At his departure, some tried to follow, the rest turned their fangs and frenzy to Luthor. And he didn't have the bats at his side. He was fodder.
The cameras cut just as the entire conference descended into pure chaos.

Clark jolted in place as he felt a hand rest on his shoulder. Turning to look at the person it belonged to, John met his unmoored gaze with an apologetic one.
“I'm sorry I ever doubted your boy toy.”
