Summary
Once the envy of the world, the city of Acheron now lies in ruin, gripped with violence and death. Fanatic revolutionaries control the palace, a virulent plague scours the streets, and the gods have disappeared into the high branches of their holy tree, leaving the mortals to their fate. In the sewers, a resistance movement takes hold, led by the former consort of the Vizier, working to restore order and save the city from destruction.
A chance encounter sees the human leader of the resistance thrust together with the crocodile goddess of death. Joined by circumstance, bonded by loss, they will fight for the fate of the city, from the highest branches of the pantheon to the deepest reaches beneath the earth. Conspiracies will collide. Takes place in the same universe as Abandoned. Reading the first story is not required, though it is recommended.

Summary
This is a short one-off story I did while trying to practice and improve my writing. The story is loose and probably doesn't make a lot of sense, but I wanted to focus on character dialogue and non-verbal dialogue (physical reactions, etc.) in this.
The protagonist of the story does not have a name, race, set age, or any other defining feature. The MC is meant as a self-insert character so that any reader can imagine themselves as the main character of this story. The protagonist is simply referred to as "Anon", "Anonymous", or "You" throughout the entire text. The only canon features are that the MC is male and relatively young (20-27).
