“Come here,” she says, softer now.
He hesitates.
Just for a second.
Thinks of how he’s putting her reputation at risk because his own twisted bastard affliction will not rest until he’s under her skin.
Then he goes.
Jace sinks down in front of her, close enough that he can feel the heat of her, the steady proof of her breathing. His hands hover again, that same uncertainty from the shore, as if he still doesn’t trust the world not to take her if he touches too hard.
Baela solves it for him.
