“You really wouldn’t mind if I had sex with someone else?”
Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”
OR: inspired by the fight in TLG where Ilya tells Shane he can sleep with other men. But this time, Shane actually takes the offer.

Summary
The light catches on the ring on Ilya's left hand, the hand that's resting on Shane's chest, right over his heart. Shane reaches up carefully, so carefully, and touches it with his fingertip. Spins it gently, feeling the smooth metal slide over Ilya's skin.
Husband.
The word still feels too small. Too… simple. Like calling the ocean a puddle, like calling the sun a lightbulb. It doesn't capture even a fraction of what Ilya is to him, what they are to each other.
Shane wakes up next to Ilya and has some feelings about it.

Summary
It happens in an instant.
Over Ilya’s shoulder, Shane sees the doctor and Wiebe give each other a look, and in a sudden bout of impatient anxiety, Shane ends up saying the words that come to ruin everything.
“Don’t touch me.”
The effect is instantaneous. Ilya’s hands fly to his sides, and Shane gets a front row seat as Ilya’s heart breaks before his very eyes. Eyes dimming and lips trembling in slow, painful technicolor.
It causes Shane’s heart to break, too, and he vows, immediately, never to see such a look cross his husband’s face again.
OR Shane embarks on a mission to heal his husband’s heart, one PDA at a time.

Summary
Shane gets married to Rose—a PR marriage, after running from Rozanov’s apartment. He continues seeing Ilya, sporadically, painfully.
A few months, maybe a year in, unable to sleep, at 4 am he checke his phone to a sting of texts from Ilya. “You snore? Turn in your sleep? She knows. I don’t. I wish we could trade. For one night.”
They both want more. They need more. The need becomes even more urgent when the plane carrying Ilya and his team makes an emergency landing.
