Summary
Andrea Sachs takes a job she is wildly overqualified for, in a building she has no business being in, for a woman she has no intention of falling for.
Miranda Priestly has never been satisfactorily read by anyone – certainly not a second assistant.
The problem with well-constructed masks is that someone, eventually, will want to see the face beneath.

Summary
2024 - In every other chapter, we follow Andrea Sachs, who is 13 when it starts, the bird flu that strikes against the population around the globe. All alone, and having promised her mother to find her little brother, she struggles to stay alive and to protect the people she comes across against those who mean them harm.
2039 - In every other chapter, Andy is 28, when she runs into Colonel Miranda Priestly, who is in command of what is left of the military after fifteen years post the bird flu. Andy happens to save Miranda's life, and that's when Miranda decides that this young woman is exactly what she needs--personally, and as a guide around the ruins of the city of Remerton.
