He couldn’t even imagine a scenario where the boy would end up dying alone on the cold, unforgiving metal floor of the engine room. It was too much. Who would miss him? Who would have wondered what had happened to him? What expectly would Akechi have been feeling as he bled out? Regret? Dejection? Hopelessness?
Akira diverted his gaze back to Goro laying on the table, swaying in and out of consciousness. Tae must have given him some sort of painkiller- an almost blissed out expression played out upon his face. Their eyes met- Akechi’s reddish-brown searching feverishly for the other boy’s clear silver ones.
How the hell would he have been able to cope with losing someone as compelling, fascinating and incredible as Goro Akechi?

Summary
It’s not like Erik wants to die. It’s just that he doesn’t want Eleven to die, and if the only thing he can place between El and danger is himself, then he’ll do it, without hesitation.
Or, 10 times Erik puts himself in harm's way for Eleven, and one time it’s the other way around.
Or, Erik and Eleven get in trouble a lot, have to be saved a lot, and manage to find themselves and each other along the way.

In pursuit of a sorcerer, Arthur and his knights stumbled into a cave. As the ceiling collapsed on them, Merlin had no choice except to reveal his magic or let all his friends die. That choice was not a choice at all.
