It would be nice if his body were to cooperate with him today. Martin will be home within the hour, and he needs to at the very least get his cake into the oven. He should have by now, but everything is just slow nowadays. The cane is becoming almost second nature, but not to the extent that he could simply move as he once had. It feels almost petty to complain – he is alive, after all – but when another fiery signal travels up and around, a hot flash spreading through his limbs in a dreadful wave, whatever energy he had left to dedicate towards gratitude burns up right along with it.
It continues this way for a while, his cane clicking across the tile as he gathers what he needs, lining them up along the counter. By the time that's done, he's already so damn tired. He probably shouldn’t have spent so much time tidying their room first, but it would have eaten at him otherwise. He wanted as few distractions as possible from Martin’s birthday, but he may very well have given himself a new one.

Martin knows Jon is trans. Jon had told him on the drive up to Scotland, a halting, hesitant confession that Martin listened to in nodding silence. It was if Jon expected to be thrown out of the vehicle for having kept this part of his life private. Martin hates whoever made him expect that sort of reaction. Still, it brings all sorts of complications into Martin’s slowly reawakening physical interests. Should he be more careful, fantasizing about his - boyfriend? Partner? Should he be acting more normal over the fact that his lover has a different body type than what Martin is used to being attracted to? Is Martin a bad person because he can’t stop staring at the panties folded modestly over the clothesline, imagining how they would look on Jon’s body?
