Summary
"Eddie?" Shannon picks up on the fourth ring. "Everything okay?"
"I kissed a man," he says.
The silence on the other end stretches for nine thousand years. Eddie can hear Shannon breathing. He can hear his own heartbeat slamming against his ribs. He stares at the apartment building through his windshield, at the lit window on the fourth floor that might belong to E. Buckley, and waits for his ex-wife to say literally anything at all.
"You what?"
"I kissed a man, Shannon. Just now. I was delivering food and he opened the door and I just— I kissed him. On the mouth. And I don't know why."
Another silence. Then a sound Eddie recognizes with dawning horror as Shannon trying very, very hard to suppress a laugh.
"Shannon."
"I'm processing."
"You're laughing."
"I'm processing." She fails spectacularly. "I'm sorry, I just— you kissed a man? Edmundo Diaz? The same Edmundo Diaz who wouldn't watch Brokeback Mountain with me because it made him 'uncomfortable'?"
"It did make me uncomfortable!"
"Yeah, Eddie, I'm starting to understand why."

Summary
“Eddie, you’re scaring me,” Buck says in the quiet of the room. “Do you-- do you know what day it is?”
“Friday,” Eddie answers, tongue thick like his throat is stuffed with cotton.
“Yeah,” Buck confirms. “And-- do you know my full name?”
Eddie swallows. “Evan Buckley,” he says definitively, but--
He finally turns to look at Buck’s face, and it’s like he’s waiting for Eddie to keep going. Like Eddie had gotten it wrong. Buck’s face melts, his brows pinched together, and Eddie--
He doesn’t know what the hell is going on.
-----
Eddie loves every version of Buck. And Buck? Well, he’s starting to realize every version of Buck loves him right back. If only Eddie could get back home to tell him that.

Summary
“Well, long story short,” Chimney says, and Hen mutters 'thank god' under her breath. “Maddie and Buck are insane when it comes to board games and cannot be trusted around them together.”
“Alright,” Buck argues instantly, face heated and he’s using his entire body weight to lean over and point in Chimney’s chest, so far that Ravi has to lean over and grab Buck’s jacket to make sure he doesn’t fall out his seat. “Look, that was one time, and –”
“You guys drew my blood!”
“You wouldn’t have gotten scratched if you didn’t just grab the chess board from us!”
“You were yelling at each other! And who plays chess?”
“Well,” Eddie starts diplomatically, but at the frantic clutch on his arm that Hen does, he wisely realizes it’s best to keep quiet and he promptly shuts his mouth.
***
The Buckley siblings are not allowed to play board games together. Until they are. Please keep Eddie and Chimney in your thoughts.

Summary
Buck looks up, pouting. “You didn’t eat breakfast,” he laments, and Eddie raises the apple and coffee. It brings a scowl to Buck’s face instantly, like Eddie knew it would. “Bobby would be so disappointed in you,” Buck says, shaking his head, and Eddie takes the time to kiss Buck soundly, a little lick to his bottom lip that he can get away with before Chris starts gagging at the kitchen table.
“You’re gonna be so late, Dad,” Chris reminds them, his cereal balanced precariously on his spoon. Amelia copies him with her own tiny spoon, and she furrows her brow as she focuses, her light brown hair a mop on her head since no one’s brushed it out yet. Eddie reaches over to kiss his kids’ heads and races to work.
“I love you!” Eddie calls out, and there are three voices all chiming back.
“Love you more,” Eddie hears as he locks the front door behind him, and he drives to work and thinks - not possible, not possible, have you seen inside my heart? Not possible, not possible -

Summary
“Every day for a long time now, I’ve thought about how I would die. In a desert, in a fire, in a tornado or a storm or disaster. It would always be trying to save someone else, someone who needs help. But dying in the arms of someone I love… seems like a good way to go.”
A sound like thunder beats against the ground as the deer takes off, lost in the blur of green and brown around them, and Eddie turns his head to try to watch it run away.
***
Eddie and Chris leave the desert in El Paso to move closer to Abuela in Forks, Washington. Along the way, there's Evan Buckley, with his gold eyes and intense stare. It was an unconditional and irrevocable truth that they were always going to be crashing into one another.
