Stolas lets out a trill simply because Moxxie is laughing and smiling, and he knows it's intended to be a humorous comment. He's tempted to file it away as something else to ask Blitzø about in private, but Moxxie has always been so kind to him that Stolas risks it now. "What is that?"

Summary
Instead of letting Stolas go free with Blitzo after the court ruling, Satan rules that Stolas is to be thrown in the dungeon. Stolas isn't stupid; he knows that this is a decorated death sentence. And, honestly, that isn't great alone, but on top of that, he's carrying Blitzo's egg. He's only known about a week.
Perhaps this is his punishment, for being so selfish.
