Like Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian wears his gem on a bracelet on his wrist. It's mostly covered by his sleeve but Lan Wangji can see a bit of it peeking out, enough to know that it doesn't change color in his presence.
Wei Wuxian doesn't feel any strong emotion toward him.

Madam Yu's voice howled from another room, loud enough to make it through the shitty speaker of Wei Ying's shitty old flip phone, a hand me down that his friend could replace—he had the money now that he was older and had graduated into a great job offer—but didn't because he knew his adoptive mother would scream at him for being ungrateful, greedy, spoiled, all the while ensuring her other children always had the latest, greatest models.
"I gotta go," Wei Ying sighed, a sliver of fear slipping through his voice, Lan Zhan's heart cracking open, the angry, vengeful blood he kept locked away inside seeping out into his veins. "I'll talk to you later."
"Tonight," Lan Zhan insisted, before Wei Ying could hang up. He needed to know his friend was okay—mentally, physically—before he could sleep.
"I'll try," Wei Ying whispered, a short, shuddering, "Goodbye," slipping from his lips before the call went dead.
In which, Lan Wangji gets a good excuse (to go on a murder spree) for his birthday.
