Summary
Silverstone had screamed itself hoarse for him, had waved Union Jacks and neon flags bearing his logo until the grandstands looked like a living, breathing sea of his colors. The world loved him today — revered him with a ferocity he once thought could fill every hollow space inside him.
And it meant nothing.
Because every time he blinked, he saw it again — the angry flush creeping up Oscar's normally composed face during the national anthem. The mechanical, joyless way he'd raised his champagne bottle during celebrations, spraying it at no one in particular with all the enthusiasm of someone washing their car. The way his eyes, usually so warm when they found Lando's, had turned flat and distant, like someone had flipped a switch and turned off everything that made him Oscar.

But that was the problem, wasn't it?
It had meant something.
Somewhere between late-night takeout in unfamiliar cities and lazy morning sex in generic hotel rooms, between shared headphones during long flights and the easy, familiar way Oscar would hand him a water bottle without being asked — somewhere along the way, without realizing it, Lando had broken their most important rule.
He'd let this — let Oscar — matter.
He was a driver. He lived by data, by lines, by apexes, by precision and predictable outcomes. And by all the metrics he trusted, what they had was just efficiency — optimal resource allocation, a perfect synergy of need and convenience that maximized performance and minimized complication.
But Lando Norris, the master of oversteer, the king of late-braking heroics, had catastrophically misjudged the most important corner of his life.
He’d entered too fast, on cold tires, his heart overruling his head. He’d seen the flashing red of the warning signs — the way his chest tightened when Oscar smiled, the way he’d started measuring his own worth in the quiet approval in Oscar’s hazel eyes — and he’d ignored them all, flat-footing the throttle in a reckless, glorious, stupid ecstasy of how good it all felt.
The problem was he’d done the one thing an engineer would never forgive. He’d let the variable become a constant. He’d let Oscar become the equation.

When Harry succumbs to dementors in Little Whinging, the last thing he expects is to wake up and find Tom Riddle’s face staring back at him in the mirror.
It only goes downhill from there.
(In which Harry learns: if Voldemort had been like an atom bomb, Tom Riddle is the biblical forbidden fruit, succulent and fragrant and filled with an insidious rot that just may kill him.)

Zuko is courting Katara, and with every passing day finds new and insane ways of showing that he would quite literally move the spirit world and earth to make her happy.
In hindsight, it probably would've been better if Sokka had realised he was in love with Zuko at literally any time before this. Or preferably, never fallen for his best friend in the first place.

Summary
So far, college has taught Stiles three things:
1) Eight am classes are cruel and unusual and should be avoided at all costs, even if it means having to enroll in something truly hideous instead, like Econ 101.
2) Dorm security is just as tight as Stiles’ orientation leader had promised it would be, and the dude guarding Scott’s dorm in particular does not respond well to bribes.
3) Mrs. McCall clearly had no clue what she was talking about when she’d insisted that Scott and Stiles needed to branch out and room with strangers, so it’s all her fault that Scott ended up with a total dick of a roommate and Stiles got stuck all the way across campus with some guy who has a girlfriend two towns over and is thus never around.
Or, the one where pledge brothers Stiles and Scott start a prank war with Derek Hale's fraternity.

“Such ego,” Harry breathes out shakily, though his voice trembles with strain.
Riddle grins, and with deliberate intimacy brushes a finger along Harry’s cheek, the touch soft and horrifying in equal measure, “Whatever happened to you, Hadrian…get over it. I’m going to be so much worse.”
Or
Harry Potter dies, and Hadrian Peverell survives. Tom Riddle is just what comes next, or perhaps, what was always there.

Summary
So, Kate Bishop. Yes, Yelena tries not to think about her. The missions usually help. The alcohol definitely helps. But there’s no vodka here, no extraction team coming, no last-minute reprieve. Just the steady beep-beep-beep of the timer and the temperature that rises along with the cold acceptance that there’s no getting out of this one.
Or, Yelena hasn't seen Kate in more than a year and it takes almost dying a few too many times for her to finally do something about it.

Bookmarker's Notes
As a cardinal rule paramount to her own self-preservation, Yelena Belova does not think about Kate Bishop. Ever.
This is, of course, a lie.
Kate is a knife between her lungs that she’s learned to breathe around; a ghost that haunts the hollow spaces between Yelena’s ribs, persistent and aching.
And sure, this is not a very nice way of talking about the one person Yelena is sure she loves more than breathing, but she's pressed for time and it's hard to think of better metaphors when she's quite literally about to meet her maker. There's an art to dancing with death when you're already half-ghost

Summary
When Eddie end up in the hospital, Buck travels to El Paso to be there for Chris. In the overwhelming Texas heat Buck and Chris learn to navigate the complexities of their relationship to each other. What does it mean to be a legal guardian? What does it mean to be family?
~Or~
Chris is fourteen and heavily traumatized. When he's confronted with yet another drastic shift in his family, he acts like it. He's insecure, he's full of doubt, and he can't seem to wrap his head around why Buck showed up at all.
~~
"How did you do that?"
"Open the door?" Chris asked back, as if it was the stupidest question he ever heard.
"I thought it was locked," Buck said.
Chris raised his eyebrow and held up the key in his hand, balanced his weight on one single crutch while he did so, "You don't have a key?"
"Uh," Buck cleared his throat, a little embarrassed, "N-no."

…
Draco had been prepared for this.
He had rehearsed this moment in his head, told himself that when Harry walked in, he would be calm, poised, in complete control.
But then—
Then Harry stepped through the doors.
And Draco forgot how to fucking breathe.

“All it took,” Matt bites out, raising his voice barely above a whisper, and he can see, he can, because he looks at Foggy’s face like it kills him, “was seven broken bones, class II haemorrhage, fifty-four seconds of flatline, and all of my remaining sanity. Fifty-four seconds, Foggy. I lost you for a minute, and it’s not like there was someone I could beat up to get you back. So, yeah, it took all of it, fucking everything for me to realise I had the one most important person in my life and I’ve been screwing him over a good long time before some bitter, batshit crazy D-lister villain dropped him from an eight-storey building just to get back at me.”
In which there are enough near-death experiences for everybody, Foggy is definitely not a kid sidekick, Matt, Hell’s Kitchen gets two Devils for the price of one, because it’s your lucky day, and it isn’t a love story, because they aren’t in love, obviously. Just dudes bein’ bros, yeah? Yeah, Karen must be broke as a fucking joke, because she ain’t bying it.

“This is an especially cruel line of questioning.” Buck told her. She shrugged.
He wondered if she, like him, had come to the conclusion that the more of a show they put on, the more likely the killer was to extend their time there.
“They've lost enough. He must be worried out of his mind right now. And Christopher— would he even tell him? How could you tell a child something like that? Again?”“I know,” He said softly, his smile small and sad, just for her. “But I was only ever born so my sibling could live. At least I finally achieved my purpose, in the end.”
It took Maddie a moment to realise both of her hands were in someone else’s. Her assumption would have been her husband, but no. She had Bobby on one side and Eddie on the other, and she wondered if these were the three people who loved Evan most in the world, standing side by side, completely unable to do anything more to help him.
Either way, he realised, it would always be heartbreak.
Losing Buck or losing Christopher.
Either way, he would be left missing.
It felt, Eddie thought, like choosing which limb to cut off. Which completely necessary piece of himself to part with.”What— what happened to Buck?”
Eddie hadn’t said his name. Christopher had surmised from the description of him. Something about that ached like another bullet piercing his flesh.
“He’s— he’s been taken.” Eddie whispered, “He’s— we don’t know— we don’t know—”
He should have been better. Stronger, for his son.
Christopher’s lip wobbled, “He’s hurt?”
”We don’t know. Maddie only said he’d been taken. That she was let go and—”
”Let’s go then.” Christopher was certain, his voice finite. It wasn’t a question, not an option. He was leaving, and he was only offering Eddie the chance to come.
He couldn’t get anywhere without Eddie, but by resolve alone, Eddie imagined it would be hard to stop him.“Well… no. That’s not how you find out. I simply refuse. I’m not going to reward your idiotic, self-hating behaviour by reaffirming this dumb belief you have that you have to like, bleed yourself dry for people to love you. I’m not going to help reaffirm to you that you need to set yourself on fire just so that the people around you will want to stay in the warmth.”
“Edmundo, surely you can see how this proves our point?” Ramon began, “Your life isn’t stable enough for your son. He needs stability. He needs home and family. He needs us.”
“He needs his father.” Eddie spat, already getting his phone back out to find the next available tickets, no matter the price.
”You could stay here,” Helena posed, “He doesn’t have to be without his father.”
“I wasn’t talking about me.” Eddie answered sharply. “His other father.” -

Bookmarker's Notes
“He is a child,” Dumbledore’s tone is sharp.
“So was I.” Fury burns hot in his veins, he feels like the fire might just spill out of him.Silence. Harry’s words have hit his mark. Dumbledore has no moral response to this. Harry knows what they are—he has had them himself, heard the words echoing around his own head. He will become less, he will reduce himself to the level of Voldemort, he’ll be a monster, a villain. His parents wouldn’t want him to, his friends would want him to be their beautiful perfect hero Harry that he had been.
His loved ones are dead—they don’t want anything.
And Harry wants to see Tom Riddle hanged. “I have to,” he says, beaten and bloodied and tired, “Don’t you get it?”“At least you will be dead. And so many will live instead,” Potter says, like that makes sense. “Enough talking. Avada Kedavra.”
“Expelliarmus,” Tom snaps out, an immediate, instinctive response. The patronus wants you to be happy and the killing curse requires you to hate and the spells are the antithesis of the other, and yet Harry can cast both with equal ease.
Harry flinches. The words are like a physical blow, like the anger he can see festering in the ghost of his friend has become tangible and real with gravity and weight to it. “You’ll live here,” he promises. “You’ll be reborn in 1979. You died so you could live again, isn’t that… isn’t that enough? Let it be enough, I'm tired … I've given up so much to be here," he spins to face them. "So much," he echoes. "That's all I know how to do: to fight. Dumbledore raised me to be a martyr for the cause and I did it. I died. And now I'm done ."
