It’s pouring out, and Kipps is gearing up to really lay into Bobby for making him leave his flat in this mess, when he opens the door and stops dead. Because it’s not Bobby: it’s Anthony Lockwood and Lucy Carlyle, looking not at all like their usual selves. Lockwood’s tie is gone, his shirt is partially unbuttoned, and Carlyle appears to be wrapped in his coat.
Or, Kipps encounters a different kind of visitor.

Summary
Hating the strategic (suicidal, self-flagellating) part of his brain more than ever, speaking slowly but confidently even as he hoped the words that came out of his mouth would be an entirely different safe, victory-assuring plan of action than the one he was thinking of. No such luck, however.
“Looks like you have a date with Kipps, Luce.”
Lockwood wished he could take the words back as soon as they were out. The immediate (cute) scrunch of disgust of Lucy’s nose comforted him a little but it too quickly began to turn into a look that meant she was about to lay into him, and he’d deserve it.
Or: Lucy has to go on a date with Kipps for a case and jealousy and shenanigans ensue

"I was also going to head up to squeeze in a bit of rest before tonight’s case," Lockwood said.
“Right,” Lucy said slowly. Their eyes met, and a look of understanding passed between them.
He paused for a moment before speaking. “Or if you wouldn’t mind, we could—” He took a tentative step towards her and quirked an eyebrow.
His question was clear as day, and so was her answer. “Sure,” Lucy said, as she scooted over to make room for him.
As always, Lockwood’s smile was the brightest thing in the room. He crossed the library in two large strides and settled in next to her on the sofa.
