    Instinct makes Seonghwa press himself low to the snow. He snarls, trying to make the poacher drop the rod and run.
    But the tall one moves faster than expected, diving for the gun with a desperate grunt. Seonghwa twists toward him, but the pipe-wielding man swings wildly, forcing him to sidestep.
    The delay is fatal.
    The gun's muzzle flashes in the dim light as the tall one pulls the trigger without hesitation.

    Hongjoong's hand jerks, he's on his feet before conscious thought catches up with the sound his ears have heard, knocking over his chair as he lunges for the gun cabinet.
    A gunshot, here, on a federally protected mountain, in the middle of winter, was impossible. There was no hunting allowed. The only firearm for miles was locked in his own cabinet, untouched for months.
    He only has one thought, Seonghwa.
