    Shane has learned that Rozanov played in the KHL up until signing with the Centaurs. His departure from his previous team seemed to end on anything but friendly terms. He has a reputation. There’s stories about fights in the locker room, authority issues, and he’s apparently a notorious party boy, a womanizer, some new omega on his arm in every photo online.

    Or: Shane loves hockey, but was never allowed to go pro due to regulations preventing omegas from playing professional hockey. Instead, he works as a nutritionist for the Ottawa Centaurs. Ilya is a recent transfer to the team, and takes an immediate liking to Shane. Having built walls around himself and his designation, will Shane be able to open up to him and let the alpha in?

    Rose volunteers for a nonprofit that rescues sex-trafficked omegas, and Shane thinks it's a great cause. He even attends their fundraising galas.

    Then, one night, Rose calls to ask for a favor: She wants Shane to let a recently-rescued male omega live with him. In his apartment.

    His name is Ilya, Rose explains, and the thing is, despite omega hormone levels, he acts and smells just like an alpha. He can't keep staying in an omega group home because he's scaring the other omegas and endangering the staff.

    But he could live with Shane, Rose insists. "You're a big strong alpha hockey player, so he can't intimidate you physically. But also he needs to feel safe, which he can with you, because you're not like other alphas." She pauses. "You know?"

    By which she means Shane has never had a full rut, his scent glands barely work, he can't form a knot, and he has no interest in sticking his dick in anyone. Which, whatever. It's fine.

    But if being a failure as an alpha means he can help this omega, Ilya, who's apparently as much of a biological anomaly as Shane is…

    Shane says yes.

    And maybe it's a stupid decision. But he knows that it's also the right one.

    Shane means to say no. He means to tell Ilya Rozanov—arrogant Bolshoi principal dancer and professional pain in his ass—to fuck off and stop moving set pieces without permission. Instead, he ends up on his knees in a dressing room, which is definitely not how the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s stage manager is supposed to handle conflict resolution.

    Three weeks until opening night. One impossible rivalry. And absolutely no way this ends well.

    or: Ilya comes to Winnipeg for The Nutcracker. Shane tries very hard to hate him. The mind-blowing hate-sex doesn’t help.
