So basically I thought too hard and realized that if Jacob imprinted onto the one ovum in Bella's ovary because it had Renesmee's DNA, he would have imprinted onto the one sperm in Edward's balls, but sperm is only kept for about 72 hours after creation.
Jacob suddenly desperately needs Edward.
