Astarion goes into rut for the first time in over two centuries after becoming Cazador's spawn. Despite having only known each other a weeks, Gale offers to help Astarion through it. Over the course of their conquest to defeat the Netherbrain and rid themselves of their little tadpole friends, our favorite rogue and practiced wizard relearn that just because nature says one thing, doesn't mean you have to listen.

After helping Astarion through his rut, Astarion relearns what it means to be an alpha on his own terms (with a little help) and Gale learns that sometimes it's okay to be soft.

The rain came down in sheets and Gale had to blink rapidly to keep the water from his eyes. A steady thrum of pleasure throughout his body from the robes had him biting his lip to stay quiet. The camp had emptied at this point, everyone snug in their tents and safe from the torrential downpour.
Thunder rumbled around them and Gale shuddered.

Astarion settled on the floor behind him, the smooth, cool plain of his chest pressed to Gale’s back. Gale tried to meet his eyes in the mirror but of course, that wasn’t possible. Instead, he was met with his own image; naked, in an exposing position and jarringly alone.
