    When Sam is 10, his parents die in a car accident.
    Afterwards, he’s sent to live with an uncle he has never met.

    When he is 17, he goes to college.
    There, he catches the unwanted attention of the Autobots Search & Retrieval.

     

    Set in a world where the Autobots are known and have been quietly (and also not so quietly) meddling in human affairs since the late 1800s.

    An AU of Fission - A bit of an alternative way of Sam getting to Diego Garcia (that started as a small what if but quickly grew out of proportions).
    I don’t think you need to read Fission to understand what’s going on here, but it’s an absolutely delightful work, so you absolutely should go read it.

    Primus was all knowing maybe, but just like he said, he wasn’t all powerful. Primus couldn’t send him back. But Sam could.

    Worst case scenario, he evaporates into nothingness, but at least that would be better than spending an eternity here, watching everyone he loves die, watching as another version of himself enjoys everything he had been fighting for.

    Was it dramatic? Probably. But Sam was young, he was meant to be dramatic. And for his family, he’s done crazier things.

    Or: Sam gets transported to the Transformers Prime universe and ends up messing up fate's plans for its inhabitants, for the better, or for the worse.

    Everyone always says that dying is worst for the loved one left behind.

    Sam has to assume that only applies when the person in question stays dead. Because his life has been a steaming pile of shit since his resurrection in the Egyptian desert. Mikaela broke up with him. He hasn't seen Bee in months. The Autobots are ignoring him. He's been exiled from college and left to the mercies of his overbearing parents.

    But it's inevitable, really. If there's an Autobot disaster to be had, Sam will wind up in the middle of it. Maybe this time around it'll end up doing him some good. With every battle he ends up growing closer to the Autobots. Maybe this time he'll end up getting a second family out of it.

    The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Does that still apply when most of the blood is actually Energon?

    And why the fuck have all the Autobots started bowing at him?

    Upon Sam stabbing Optimus with the Matrix of Leadership, Optimus is given the opportunity to go back before the Civil war that ravaged Cybertron, before he sent the Allspark off world and before Megatron was corrupted by the Fallen.
    Before his bond with his brother broke.

    Sam is unfortunately along for the ride. The Allspark is a smug semi-sentient artifact that fuck up his life again and again and now it has decided the Sam would do very well on Cybertron... as a Cybertronian... as a sparkling.
