Despite its innate yearnings to kill the boy, Luffy looked at home at the sea. Zoro watched him from the shoreline, eyes tracing each movement, each jump and stumble against the rocky shore. Luffy would turn to him, smile wide, the breeze carrying his laughter to receptive ears, giving Zoro another chance to hear the sirens sound.
To be caught in the knowing gaze of the captain meant you were seen for all that you are and everything you lack. Zoro found himself caught in the others' vision and yet he was always met with warmth, despite all his shortcomings.
