In 2015, Steve and the Avengers search for Bucky Barnes, thanks to a little extra intel from the future. GEN-based hurt/comfort/angst story, heavy on friendship, recovery, and examination of one very traumatized guy from the 1940s. COMPLETE, Standalone.
This canon-based multi-verse story takes place immediately after Age of Ultron. What does that mean? Because this is part of my Winter Soldier Time Travel series, it takes place in a canon-compliant timeline offshoot from the original canon-based story. I recommend you read Part 1 of the series (Winter Soldier: Resurrection), but you can easily understand this story without doing so. However, Part 1 is an easy read, less than 40K words, and it'll give you the background for this story. Part 2 of the series isn't relevant to Part 3, so you don't have to read that long story to understand this one at all. The end of Part 1 leads directly into Part 3 (Isn't the MCU multiverse fun?). The truth was things were feeling a little uncomfortable. Things were different with Edward. I felt like I had to be on guard more often, watching things. Watching him to see if he would leave again. He had said it was the blackest kind of blasphemy to say he didn’t want me. In the same conversation he had said he was a very good liar. I didn’t know which one to believe. I know I wanted to believe that he wanted me, but a small part of me knew it was too good to be true. Edward was tall, strong, intelligent, practically carved from marble. I was just, well, me.
