When Bonnie messes up a memory spell and accidentally swaps Elena and Tatia, Elena must figure out how to survive in a time when the Original family are still human. As the days go by she wonders if she'll ever make it home. Of course Bonnie figures out how to get her back, but when Elena finds that while sixteen months passed for her, only sixteen days passed for her friends, things get a little complicated. Surely a trip to New Orleans can help her get her feet back under her?

On the way, Elena will have to deal with her newly returned humanity as well as some long-awaited truths about Caroline's old relationship with the older Salvatore.

Whatever.
Like in any of the preceding times where Elena initiated it, the kiss grew hungrier than it had been that true first time, when she'd turned around and was blindsided by the realization that the 'em' Katherine had sent her off to meet was Elijah Mikaelson.
She bit into his lip and let her nails cut into the skin on the side of his neck. A potent, familiar scent hit the air, and Elena let out a satisfied little growl near the back of her throat. She'd made him bleed. Good.
That's what he got for somehow getting her caught in a fucking time loop.

Groundhog!American Gothic — Elijah calls her Katerina and then kisses her. Two hours later, he does it again. And again. This is a lot of making out... it's also a lot of being called by the wrong name. Elena might be full of bone-deep apathy, but eventually something's gotta give.
