Since starting secondary school, he's entered an elite training program, where he was voluntarily Severed and lives life at his school for part of the day as an Innie, unable to remember his life outside of the school campus. One day, after exiting the Code Scanner at the checkpoint as school, he finds in his bag a notebook simply titled "Death Note."

The agents of the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit have no memory of this place. When a search for a missing girl and the investigation into the boy covered with her blood leads them to the shores of Dark Score, the last thing they expect to find is a photo of them together, dated some twenty years prior. As far as they know, the picture is impossible. They've never been here.
